Root Canals

Like many people, you may be apprehensive about having a root canal. But patients at our Arcadia dental office soon realize that root canal treatment is no more complicated than having a normal filling. With advanced skills and modern technology, our doctors perform root canal therapy that is comfortable and efficient.

When the inner core of your tooth becomes infected by injury or damage, you may need root canal therapy. First, we'll numb the area to be treated, making sure you're as comfortable as possible.

Next, we remove the infected material using special instruments designed to streamline treatment and reduce the time you need to spend in the dental chair. The tooth is then filled, and we will most likely recommend placement of a dental crown to protect the tooth and restore it to full function

Root Canals Save Teeth

Root canal treatment protects the basic structure of your tooth. Even though the nerve has been removed, you can still use the tooth for chewing. Since the tooth is intact, it stays in its proper position, which prevents problems with your dental bite and helps preserve optimal spacing between remaining teeth.

Misinformation about root canals prevents many patients from seeking the care they need. Postponing root canal treatment gives the infection an opportunity to spread to your jawbone and nearby teeth. If the infection isn’t treated promptly, the tooth will continue to decay, and there won’t be enough hard tissue left to perform a successful root canal. If this occurs, the tooth will probably need to be removed.

We always have your best interest in mind, and depending on the complexity of your case, Dr. Thai may refer you to an endodontist (root canal specialist) to ensure you get the best possible care.
